The following specifications are designed to assist you in acquiring a

FALLS® Fixed Angle, One-Way Snow Plow

or its equal. Differences in manufacturing designs are acknowledged. The dimensions within the specifications are intended to indicate the size, type, and quality of unit desired.

Dimensions:

Cutting width or space cleared by the snow plow shall be not less than ______.

Overall width shall be not greater than ______________.

Nose height (leading edge) shall be not less than _____________.

Discharge height shall be not less than _____________.

Cutting edge shall be one (1) 5/8" x 6" x ____ ft. with replaceable nose bit. Cutting edges shall be AASHO punched.

Leading edge shall be reinforced with a landslide plate of not less than 3/16" A-607-50 steel or better.

Total weight shall not be less than ______________ pounds

Moldboard:

Moldboard shall be smooth rolled design. The roll radii of the moldboard shall be 13" at the leading end and shall be 22" beginning 12" up from the lower moldboard support angle at the discharge end. Moldboard shall be constructed of not less than 10 ga. high strength carbon steel, A607 Grade 50 or equal. Mild steel is not acceptable.

Moldboard shall be reinforced with not less than six (6) vertical ribs or three (3) rolled 4" channel iron ribs on 11 ft models and eight (8) vertical ribs or four (4) rolled 4" channel iron ribs on 12 ft. models. The vertical braces shall be additionally reinforced with horizontal cross members of not less than 4" channel iron. The discharge end shall be flanged or ribbed in addition to a 1/2" round bar for added strength. Including the landslide plate specified above the total number of vertical reinforcement ribs on the moldboard shall be eight (8) in number on the 11 ft. models and ten (10) in number on the 12 ft models.

Top edge of the moldboard shall be double flanged or reinforced with a minimum 2" x 2" x 3/16" A-36 angle iron. The bottom moldboard support structure or frog shall be a minimum 4" x 4" x 3/4" A-36 MOD angle iron boxed the entire distance between bolt holes for reinforcement.

Moldboard shall have built in snow deflectors. The built-in snow deflectors shall extend approximately 12" beyond a vertical line drawn from the leading edge of the cutting edge at the nose end of the snow plow when the moldboard attack angle is 35 degrees (measured from vertical). The built-in snow deflectors shall increase in the amount of overhang as it approaches the discharge end. The amount of overhang at the discharge when measured in the same fashion as the nose end shall be approximately 20". These dimensions shall be approximately 16" and 30" respectively as the attack angle is increased to 15 degrees.

Moldboard shall be offset with respect to the center line of the vehicle on which it is mounted. The moldboard shall be positioned so that the leading edge provides approximately 4" of clearance beyond the outside edge of the LH tire. The balance of the moldboard shall be extended to the RH side of the vehicle so that an 11 ft. snow plow will provide a minimum of 11" of clearance beyond the outside edge of the RH tire and a 12 ft. snow plow will provide a minimum of 21". This is to provide maximum overlap potential for a snow plow/snow wing combination or to provide maximum clearance from the road shoulder.

Optional
Tripping
Mechanism :

Plow shall be equipped with compression spring loaded pitch adjustment bars to allow the one way snow plow to "trip" over obstructions and return to the normal plowing position without having to manually reset the tripping device. Springs shall be compression type minimum 9/16" diameter chrome-vanadium wire.

OR

Plow moldboard and push frame shall be equipped with slotted trip assemblies that will permit the plow to slide up and away from road obstructions in order to mitigate impact shock and potential damage to the snow plow. The lower moldboard support shall have two (2) sets of trip slide receptors comprised of 3/4" steel plate with 1" steel spacers. The spring shall be minimum 11/16" wire diameter x 16" length 5160H spring steel. The rod shall be minimum 1-1/4" diameter cold-rolled steel with 1-3/4" slotted steel plate. The retainer nut shall incorporate a safety device preventing accidental nut rotation and to aid in retention of components in the event of failure. Note: not available on Model 310.

Heavy Duty Slotted Trip mechanism available.

Mounting
Assembly:

The fixed angle push frame shall be of heavy duty construction and shall be designed to distribute plowing stresses across the entire length of the lower moldboard angle. The fixed angle shall be 33-35 degrees. The push frame shall attach to the moldboard with no less than five (5) 1-1/4" diameter pins. The main components of the push frame shall be manufactured of 3" x 3" x 3/8" wall square tubing, Grade A-505 or better, and 3" x 5.7# I-beam

One way snow plow shall incorporate a free floating oscillating feature to allow the plow to follow the changing road contours. This feature shall not be sacrificed if plow is equipped with any quick coupler.

Plow shall have variable moldboard pitch adjustment to allow the attack angle of the cutting edge to be changed from approximately 15 degrees to 35 degrees as measured from a vertical line.

Paint:

Shall be standard Falls color.

ID &
Warranty:

Unit shall be identified with a metal plate riveted to the moldboard. ID tag shall include model, serial number, and manufacturer. 12 month limited warranty.
Approved
Models:

Approved models include: Falls Model _______. Other makes/models must contact office a minimum of two (2) weeks prior to the bid opening date to allow time for approval.
Shoes:

One way snow plow shall be equipped with three (3) shoes: Two (2) screw adjustable , 1" x 6" x 20" and shall be C1090 or equal, and one (1) nose shoe or bit. Shoes shall be adjustable without the use of tools.
