Moldboard shall be smooth rolled design. The roll
radii of the moldboard shall be 13" at the leading end and shall
be 22" beginning 12" up from the lower moldboard support angle at
the discharge end. Moldboard shall be constructed of not less than
10 ga. high strength carbon steel, A607 Grade 50 or equal. Mild
steel is not acceptable.
Moldboard shall be reinforced with not less than six
(6) vertical ribs or three (3) rolled 4" channel iron ribs
on 11 ft models and eight (8) vertical ribs or four (4) rolled 4"
channel iron ribs on 12 ft. models. The vertical braces shall be
additionally reinforced with horizontal cross members of not less
than 4" channel iron. The discharge end shall be flanged or ribbed
in addition to a 1/2" round bar for added strength. Including the
landslide plate specified above the total number of vertical reinforcement
ribs on the moldboard shall be eight (8) in number on the 11 ft.
models and ten (10) in number on the 12 ft models.
Top edge of the moldboard shall be double flanged
or reinforced with a minimum 2" x 2" x 3/16" A-36 angle iron. The
bottom moldboard support structure or frog shall be a minimum 4"
x 4" x 3/4" A-36 MOD angle iron boxed the entire distance between
bolt holes for reinforcement.
Moldboard shall have built in snow deflectors. The
built-in snow deflectors shall extend approximately 12" beyond a
vertical line drawn from the leading edge of the cutting edge at
the nose end of the snow plow when the moldboard attack angle is
35 degrees (measured from vertical). The built-in snow deflectors
shall increase in the amount of overhang as it approaches the discharge
end. The amount of overhang at the discharge when measured in the
same fashion as the nose end shall be approximately 20". These dimensions
shall be approximately 16" and 30" respectively as the attack angle
is increased to 15 degrees.
Moldboard shall be offset with respect to the center
line of the vehicle on which it is mounted. The moldboard shall
be positioned so that the leading edge provides approximately 4"
of clearance beyond the outside edge of the LH tire. The balance
of the moldboard shall be extended to the RH side of the vehicle
so that an 11 ft. snow plow will provide a minimum of 11" of
clearance beyond the outside edge of the RH tire and a 12 ft. snow
plow will provide a minimum of 21". This is to provide maximum
overlap potential for a snow plow/snow wing combination or to provide
maximum clearance from the road shoulder.
