DO NOT operate tailgate spreader until you have read the operating instructions and are thoroughly familiar with all controls and functions.
1. Unless otherwise specified, the engagement of the main hydraulic control valve is designed to be pulled back into a detented position. In this position pressurized hydraulic oil is directed through the dual variable adjustment control valve.
2. The dual variable adjustment control valve is designed to alter the speed of the auger and of the spinner. Increasing the speed of the auger will cause more material to be conveyed to the discharge chute. Increasing the speed of the spinner will increase the size of the spreading pattern. The speed at which these are to be operated is dependent upon the amount of abrasive material and the amount of chemical which is desired to be applied on a per lane mile basis. Information on the amount of material to be applied may be obtained through organizations such as the Salt Institute and Transfer Technologies. Ground speed sensing controls and other calibrated controls are available to more accurately apply material to the roadway. Contact Little Falls Machine, Inc. for more information. The dual variable adjustment control valve is also equipped with an on/off lever for ease of control. The dual variable adjustment control valve may also be equipped with a high pressure by-pass valve depending on the type of central hydraulic pump system.
WARNING!
DO NOT OPERATE OR ALLOW THE AUGER OR THE SPINNER TO BE OPERATED WHILE MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES ARE BEING PERFORMED. LOOSE CLOTHING AND BODY PARTS MAY BECOME ENTANGLED IN THE ROTATING PARTS AND SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH MAY RESULT.
3.

The maintenance of the tailgate spreader should include a routine inspection of all connection points to insure that all bolts, nuts and retaining pins are in place and properly secured. The hopper should be emptied and washed after each use to prevent corrosion and solidification of mixture.

WARNING!
DO NOT STAND NEAR THE ROTATING SPINNER. CONTACT WITH THE SPINNER MAY CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY AND FLYING DEBRIS MAY CAUSE INJURY.
4.

When storing units for the off season, insure that all ports, hoses, etc. have been capped or plugged to prevent the introduction of moisture and contaminants. Empty the hopper, wash down and apply corrosion resistant coating.
